SIUC (11-8) played a strong second half to outpace visiting Illinois State University (12-10) before an energized near capacity home crowd. The Salukis matched the Redbirds during the first half but were able to garner a 9-point lead (22-13) with 4:20 remaining. ISU played tough by dominating the inside and were down by only 2 points by the half (24-22). After the Redbirds tied the lead (24-24) and then extended it to 24-29 at the17:42 mark, the Salukis generated both fine inside play and their signature outside shooting. The result was an 18-6 run over 11 minutes and as much as a 15-point lead. Monte Jenkins was instrumental in the 60-49 victory with six 3-point baskets and 26 total points.
