Loyola University at St. Louis University 15 August 2003
SLU (0-0-0), picked to finish first in C-USA, coasted to a 4-3 exhibition win over Loyola University (0-0-0) at Hermann Stadium before a crowd of 1,169 on a warm summer evening in St. Louis. Loyola Ramblers took an early 1-0 lead in the first 2 minutes of play on a goal by junior forward Bill Metzger (2) but the score was soon tied on the first of two goals by freshman midfielder Will John (13). The Billikens built the lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick by freshman forward Vedad Ibisevic (9) and 4-1 on a late first-half score by freshman midfielder David Peplinski (11). Two late second-half goals by Loyola closed out the scoring but preserved the victory for the host Billikens. SLU out-shot Loyola 19-11 and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Billikens freshman midfielder Will John (13) gets past Loyola senior goalkeeper Greg Stellatos (1) and scores his second goal.

SLU freshman forward Vedad Ibisevic (9) begins to move around Ramblers senior goalkeeper Greg Stellatos (1) but is dragged down (Stellatos is given a red card and ejected from the game for rough play) and awarded a penalty kick, which is successful and provides a comfortable 3-1 lead.
