SLU (14-3-2) captured
the C-USA championship with a 3-2 victory over the University
of Cincinnati (11-8-2) at Hermann Stadium before a crowd
of 1,246 on a typical Fall afternoon in St. Louis. SLU led at
the half on a goal by senior midfielder Joe Hammes (22). Cincinnati
tied the score on a penalty kick early in the second half. The
Billikens took the lead 2-1 on a goal by senior midfielder Mike
Kirchhoff (17), only to have the scored tied again by the Bearcats.
Senior forward Jason Cole (3) helped SLU to regain the lead off
a corner kick late in the game. The Billikens were able to control
the last 14 minutes of play to preserve the final margin of victory. |
