SIUC (5-8) was shorted by visiting University of Northern Iowa (5-5) before 657 fans in the SIU arena. The Panthers built an early halftime lead (27-38), which the Salukis narrowed to 4 points with 3:32 remaining in the game. Better outside shooting by UNI allowed them to hang on, handing the Salukis a 49-57 home loss.


SIU's junior forward Maria Niebrugge (40) had another strong game with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist in 30 minutes of action. Niebrugge shoots over UNI junior forward Nikki Spettel (41).


Saluki junior guard Courtney Smith (14) was able to take the offensive by leading SIU with 14 points along with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals in 22 minutes.

Panther senior forward Allison Starr (50) led UNI with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals.

UNI junior forward Kary Dawson (3) contributed 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists while playing the entire 40 minutes.

Saluki junior center Kristine Abramowski (55) was absent on offense during the game but collected a game-high 8 rebounds.
