SIUC (7-6) won a convincing match against visiting Wichita State University (8-8) before an average sized winter-break home crowd. The Salukis got off to a quick lead 7-2 against the Shockers and struggled to a 26-25 lead by half-time due in part to weak inside play. The second half was much better; the Salukis were able to build a 5 point lead at the 12:31 mark and extend it to 10 points. Three-point shooting by Chris Thunell (who had 23 points), motivated inside play, good defense, and having 3 Shockers foul out were crucial in this effort, resulting in the final 67-55 victory.
