Saint Louis University Billikens (22-11) survived to advance to the final four of the College Basketball Invitational with a thrilling 68-62 double overtime win over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix (22-13) at the Chaifetz Arena (reported paid attendance = 4235). SLU had a slim 27-25 first half lead but missed free throw opportunities resulted in 53-53 at the end of regulation. The first OT was played tentatively but both teams as reflected in another tie at 56-56. SLU was finally able to put together a slim lead with a key 3-point basket provided by Christian Salecich. The Billikens were led by sophomore forward Willie Reed (21 pts, 10 rebounds), freshman forward Cody Ellis (14 pts, 8 rebounds), and sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell (14 pts, 4 assists). The Phoenix were led by senior guard Troy Cotton (17 pts, 4 rebounds, 4 steals), junior guard Rahmon Fletcher (16 pts, 4 rebounds), and freshman guard Rian Pearson (14 pts, 6 rebounds). Saint Louis shot 45% from the field (21% from 3-pt range) and 63% (10-16) from the charity line. Green Bay shot 36% from the field (33% from 3-pt range) and 75% (9-12) from the charity line. The Billikens had 43 rebounds (8O, 35D), 18 assists, 7 steals, 5 blocked shots, and 15 turnovers as compared with 36 rebounds (9O, 27D), 11 assists, 6 steals, 2 blocked shots, and 13 turnovers by the Phoenix.

New Faces of Billikens Basketball

SLU sophomore forward Willie Reed (33) led all scorers with 21 points; this 2nd OT jam helped the Billikens seal the victory. Reed finished with 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocked shots, and 1 turnover.

Billikens sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell (3) is one of only three healthy guards remaining. Mitchell collected 14 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3 turnovers.

SLU freshman forward Cody Ellis (24) shoots over Green Bay junior guard Rahmon Fletcher (20). Ellis finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist.

UWGB senior guard Troy Cotton (10) scores 2 of his 17 points. Cotton finished with 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist.

Phoenix junior guard Rahmon Fletcher (20) tried to contain Billikens sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell (3). Fletcher collected 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 4 turnovers.

UWGB freshman guard Rian Pearson (5) tried to avoid the defensive pressure of SLU sophomore forward Brian Conklin (24).. Pearson finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 turnovers.
