Saint Louis University Billikens (17-8, 8-3) extended their winning streak to five games with a 62-57 come-from-behind victory against the University of Rhode Island Rams (19-6, 7-5) at the Chaifetz Arena (reported paid attendance = 7257). Two consistent characteristics contributed to the Billikens trailing 30-24 at the half, poor free-throw shooting and lack of offensive production from sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell. SLU trailed by as much as 12 points just before the intermission. The second half was once again Mitchell's time to shine, including sinking crucial points from the charity line. The Billikens were also able to contain the Rams' top scorers. The Billikens were led by sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell (13 pts, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), sophomore guard Kyle Cassity (11 pts, 6 rebounds, 5 assists), freshman guard Christian Salecich (10 pts), sophomore forward Willie Reed (10 pts, 9 rebounds), and freshman forward Cody Ellis (9 pts, 7 rebounds). The Rams were led by freshman guard Akeem Richmond (18 pts), senior guard Keith Cothran (7 pts, 4 steals), junior forward Ben Eaves (6 pts), and junior forward Delroy James (6 pts, 3 steals). Saint Louis shot 52% from the field (22% from 3-pt range) and 62% (16-26) from the charity line. Rhode Island shot 36% from the field (33% from 3-pt range) and 39% (5-13) from the charity line. The Billikens had 39 rebounds (3O, 33D), 11 assists, 6 steals, 2 blocked shots, and 17 turnovers as compared with 32 rebounds (13O, 19D), 12 assists, 11 steals, 1 blocked shot, and 12 turnovers by the Rams.

New Faces of Billikens Basketball

SLU sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell (3) was again quiet during the first half. Mitchell turn up the production during the second half and finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 turnovers. He is guarded by URI junior forward Delroy James (21), who contributed 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 3 turnovers.

Billikens sophomore guard Kyle Cassity (23) had another strong game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 4 turnovers. Rams junior guard Marquis Jones (5) finished with 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 turnover.

Billikens sophomore forward Willie Reed (33) had a strong inside presence. Reed contributed 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers.

SLU freshman guard Christian Salecich (15) drives in for a score. Salecich finished with 10 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals, and 3 turnovers.

URI freshman guard Akeem Richmond (10) scored easily from the outside. Richmond finished with a game-high 18 points to go with 2 rebounds.

Rams junior big-man and 7' center Will Martell (32) scored 5 points and collected 2 rebounds, 4 fouls, and 1 turnover.

Rams sophomore forward Orion Outerbridge (12) scores inside of Billikens sophomore forward Brian Conklin (14). Outerbridge finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 turnover. Conklin contributed 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 turnover.

URI senior guard Keith Cothran (22) scores over SLU sophomore guard Kyle Cassity (23). Cothran contributed 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, 1 blocked shot, and 2 turnovers.
