Saint Louis University Billikens (23-11) had an easier time to the finals of the College Basketball Invitational with a convincing 69-59 victory over the Princeton University Tigers (22-9) at the Chaifetz Arena (reported paid attendance = 4682). Sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell led SLU with 17 first-half points and to an early 38-29 halftime lead. The Billikens were led by sophomore guard Kwamain Mitchell (21 pts, 5 assists), sophomore forward Willie Reed (20 pts, 10 rebounds), sophomore forward Brian Conklin (9 pts, 4 rebounds), and freshman forward Cody Ellis (9 pts, 4 rebounds). The Tigers were led by junior forward Kareem Maddox (16 pts, 5 rebounds), sophomore guard Douglas Davis (14 pts), and junior guard Dan Mavraides (8 pts). Saint Louis shot 55% from the field (50% from 3-pt range) and 63% (17-27) from the charity line. Princeton shot 44% from the field (31% from 3-pt range) and 78% (14-18) from the charity line. The Billikens had 29 rebounds (8O, 21D), 10 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocked shots, and 12 turnovers as compared with 26 rebounds (8O, 18D), 9 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocked shots, and 14 turnovers by the Tigers.
