Saint Louis University Billikens (10-6, 1-1) evened their A10 record with a hard-fought come-from-behind 69-64 victory over the University of Massachusetts Minutemen (6-9, 1-1) at the Chaifetz Arena (reported attendance = 7,632 with many empty seats in the lower sections). After falling behind 27-31 at the half, the Billikens fought back behind the efforts of freshman guard Kwamain Mitchell (14 pts, 6 assists), senior guards Tommie Liddell, III (14 pts, 9 rebounds) and Kevin Lisch (13 pts: 3-13 fga, 4 assists), and sophomore guard Paul Eckerle (12 pts). The Minutemen were led by senior guard Chris Lowe (21 pts, 4 assists), junior guard Ricky Harris (18 pts), and senior center Luke Bonner (9 pts, 8 rebounds). Saint Louis shot 45% from the field (53% from 3-pt range) and 83% (10-12) from the charity line. UMass shot 54% from the field (46% from 3-pt range) and 40% (2-5) from the charity line. The Billikens had 33 rebounds (13O, 20D), 14 assists, 3 steals, 1 blocked shot, and 7 turnovers as compared with 24 rebounds (5O, 19D), 7 assists, 4 steals, 5 blocked shots, and 7 turnovers by the Minutemen.

UMass sophomore guard Anthony Gurley (12) scores over SLU senior guard Tommie Liddell, III (25) and freshman center Willie Reed (33). Gurley finished with 7 points, 1 rebound, and 2 turnovers. Minutemen senior guard Chris Lowe (14) led all scorers with 21 points, while collecting 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 turnover. UMass junior guard Ricky Harris (5) shoots over SLU senior forward Barry Eberhardt (15), senior guard Kevin Lisch (21), and freshman center Willie Reed (33). Harris scored 18 points to go with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 turnover.

Billiken freshman guard Kwamain Mitchell (3) appears to be having his best game of the season with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. In the leftmost image, Mitchell drives on Minutemen senior center Luke Bonner (31) but then dishes off to a trailing Eberhardt (15). In the middle image, Mitchell takes on UMass senior forward Tony Gaffney (24). Gaffney finished with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots. In the rightmost image, Mitchell scores inside against UMass freshman center Tyrell Lynch (25). SLU senior guard Tommie Liddell, III (25) drives on UMass center Luke Bonner (31). Liddell finished with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 turnover.

 

 

 
 Billiken freshman forward Brian Conklin (14) saw less playing time but managed to score 4 points and collect 6 rebounds. Minutemen senior center Luke Bonner (31) finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist.  SLU senior guard Kevin Lisch (21) had an off night with 3-13 shooting (2-6 from 3-pt range) but was able to hit key free throws late in the game and finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 turnovers. Billiken senior forward Barry Eberhardt (15) lays up an easy shot against Minutemen senior center Luke Bonner (31). Eberhardt scored 8 points to go with 3 rebounds.
