Saint Louis University Billikens (17-10, 8-5) stalled the #25 ranked University of Dayton Flyers (23-4, 9-3) 57-49 at the Chaifetz Arena (reported paid attendance = 10,603 with clusters of empty seats). Both the Billikens and Flyers shot poorly from the field and free-throw line with the margin of victory consisting of a couple of extra buckets and free throws by the home team. The only SLU players to score more points in the second half than the first half were seniors Kevin Lisch and Barry Eberhardt. The Billikens were led by senior guards Kevin Lisch (16 pts, 6 rebounds) and Tommie Liddell, III (10 pts, 3 rebounds, 5 assists), senior forward Barry Eberhardt (9 pts, 8 rebounds), freshman forward Brian Conklin (9 pts, 5 rebounds), freshman guard Kwamain Mitchell (8 pts), and freshman center Willie Reed (2 pts, 2 rebounds, 7 blocked shots). The Flyers were led by sophomore forward Chris Wright (11 pts, 7 rebounds), senior forward Charles Little (10 pts, 6 rebounds), and junior guard Marcus Johnson (10 pts). Saint Louis shot 42% from the field (19% from 3-pt range) and 67% (16-24) from the charity line. UD shot 31% from the field (20% from 3-pt range) and 54% (13-24) from the charity line. The Billikens had 31 rebounds (9O, 22D), 14 assists, 1 steal, 8 blocked shot, and 10 turnovers as compared with 44 rebounds (22O, 22D), 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 blocked shot, and 13 turnovers by the Flyers.

SLU senior guard Kevin Lisch (21) shot poorly from the field but capitalized on his free-throw shooting (9-10). Lisch finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and only 1 turnover. UD junior guard London Warren (1) scored 3 points and collected 4 rebounds. Billikens senior guard Tommie Liddell, III (25) was sporting a new look while scoring 10 points to go with 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 turnovers. Billikens freshman forward Brian Conklin (14) put up 8 first-half points. Conklin finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 turnovers. Flyers junior forward Kurt Huelsman (41) contributed 4 points and 7 rebounds. SLU freshman guard Kwamain Mitchell (3) scored inside against UD sophomore forward Chris Wright (33). Mitchell finished the game with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers.

UD sophomore forward Chris Wright (33) shoots over SLU senior forward Barry Eberhardt (15). Wright finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 turnovers. Eberhardt scored 9 points and collected 8 rebounds. Flyers senior forward Charles Little (15) tries to stop Billikens freshman center Willie Reed (33). Little scored 10 points, collected 6 rebounds, and committed 2 turnovers. Reed scored only 2 points but collected 2 rebounds, and blocked 7 shots. Billikens freshman center Willie Reed (33) is about to stop Flyers junior guard Marcus Johnson (32) from scoring. Johnson finished the game with 10 points and 2 rebounds. SLU freshman center Willie Reed swats a shot from UD sophomore guard Stephen Thomas (11). Reed simply needs to learn to keep these blocks on the court.

Although the reported paid attendance was 10,603 (a sell-out but SLU released 200 tickets on game day), there were still empty seats to be found in the lower (photos above) and upper (photos not shown) sections of the new arena.
