Fresh faces and the new on-campus Chaifetz Arena highlighted the exhibition game pitting Saint Louis University Billikens and Harris-Stowe State University Hornets; the Billikens coasted to an easy 86-40 victory before a less-than-capacity crowd. Seven freshman and a senior guided the way. Forwards Willie Reed (17 pts, 7 rebounds) and Brian Conklin (11 pts, 7 rebounds), center Brett Thompson (10 pts, 4 rebounds), and guards Kwamain Mitchell (8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists), Femi Long (4 pts, 10 rebounds), Ruben Cotto (11 pts, 4 rebounds), and Kyle Cassity (10 pts, 3 rebounds, 4 assists) saw significant playing time along with senior guard Tommie Liddell (10 pts, 11 rebounds, 3 assists). Saint Louis shot 47% from the field (22% from 3-pt range) and 57% (12-21) from the charity line. The Hornets were led by senior guard Brandon Davis (17 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 turnovers) and senior forward Theo Boykin (8 pts, 7 rebounds, 4 turnovers). Harris-Stowe State shot 27% from the field (29% from 3-pt range) and 33% (1-3) from the charity line. The Billikens had 59 rebounds (23O, 36D), 18 assists, 9 steals, 6 blocked shots, and 14 turnovers as compared with 36 rebounds (13O, 23D), 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocked shots, and 22 turnovers by the Hornets.

Second-year coach Rick Majerus looks over the fallen senior guard Kevin Lisch (21) during the first minutes of the game. Lisch would not return for action this game. The Billikens bench looks on with some concern, pay attention to freshman in the middle, Daniel Lisch (20) (Kevin Lisch's younger brother). Freshman guard Ruben Cotto (13) drives past Harris-Stowe senior guard Brandon Davis (32). Cotto scored 11 points and collected 4 rebounds. Davis finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 turnovers. Billikens freshman guard Femi John (12) fights for position against Hornets freshman forward Courtney Swinney (34). John finished with 4 points and 10 rebounds.

 

SLU freshman forward Brian Conklin (14) scores inside Harris-Stowe senior forward Frankie Wheeler (35). Conklin has 11 points and 7 rebounds while Wheeler was held scoreless (with 9 turnovers). Billikens senior guard Tommie Liddell (25) scores over Hornets freshman forward Trent Klein (50). Liddell finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists. Another fresh face is guard Kwamain Mitchell (3) who scored 8 points to go with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. SLU has a new freshman center in Brett Thompson (41). Thompson contributed 10 points and 4 rebounds.

A second inside presence will be freshman forward Willie Reed (33), who finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The Billikens also have freshman guard Kyle Cassity (23). Cassity finished with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
