George Washington University at St. Louis University 17 January 2009
Saint Louis University Billikens (11-6, 2-1) provided an almost packed crowd at the Chaifetz Arena (reported attendance = 9,690 with empty seats in the lower sections) some thrills by fighting back with a 63-59 victory over the George Washington University Colonials (6-9, 0-3). In previous encounters from last year, these two teams played to lopsided wins on their home courts. Tonight's contest was different, with GWU taking an early 27-26 edge at halftime. SLU stayed close in the second half on hot shooting but costly turnovers negated their efforts to pull in front and extend a lead. The Billikens finally took charge with less than 4 minutes remaining and the Colonials faltered with a last minute basket interference call. The Billikens were led by senior guards Kevin Lisch (18 pts, 5 rebounds) and Tommie Liddell, III (14 pts, 6 rebounds), freshman guard Kwamain Mitchell (9 pts, 3 rebounds, 4 assists), freshman forward Brian Conklin (9 pts), and senior forward Barry Eberhardt (9 pts, 5 rebounds). The Colonials were led by senior forward Wynton Witherspoon (15 pts, 7 rebounds), freshman guard Aaron Ware (12 pts), freshman guard Tony Taylor (9 pts, 3 rebounds), and senior forward Rob Diggs (9 pts, 6 rebounds). Saint Louis shot 51% from the field (37% from 3-pt range) and 71% (12-17) from the charity line. GWU shot 40% from the field (33% from 3-pt range) and 65% (13-20) from the charity line. The Billikens had 32 rebounds (7O, 25D), 13 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocked shots, and 14 turnovers as compared with 30 rebounds (11O, 19D), 8 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocked shots, and 7 turnovers by the Colonials.

SLU senior guard Kevin Lisch (21) brings the ball up against GWU sophomore guard Travis King (1) and senior forward Wynton Witherspoon (11). Lisch finished with game-high 18 points along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 turnovers. Billikens freshman forward Brian Conklin (24) shoots over Colonials senior forward Wynton Witherspoon (11) and his way to 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. GWU senior forward Rob Diggs (5) scores over SLU freshman Brian Conklin (24). Diggs contributed 9 points and 6 rebounds. Colonials sophomore guard Travis King (1) scores over Barry Eberhardt (15). Liddell was able to score 14 points to go with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 turnovers. GWU senior forward Wynton Witherspoon (11) drives past SLU freshman center Brett Thompson (41). Witherspoon finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocked shots. Billikens freshman guard Kwamain Mitchell (3) scored 9 points (2 here against Colonials sophomore center Joseph Katuka, 42) to go with 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
