SLU Billikens (6-3) almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with a narrow 52-48 win over Long Beach State University 49ers (1-5). After mounting a 22-17 halftime lead, the Billikens were able to extend their lead to double digits. The 49ers marched back to take a one point lead only to see SLU hit two free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory. The Billikens were led by seniors Luke Meyer (8 pts, 6 rebounds), Dwayne Polk (7 pts) and Bryce Husak (6 pts, 4 rebounds) and juniors Barry Eberhardt (9 pts 5 rebounds), Kevin Lisch (8 pts) and Tommie Liddell, III (7 pts). The Billikens shot 39% from the field (29% from 3-pt range) and 80% (8-10) from the charity line. The 49ers were led by juniors Donovan Morris (14 pts, 5 rebounds), Brian Freeman (11 pts, 7 rebounds), Artis Gant (10 pts), and Brandon Johnson (9 pts, 7 rebounds). Long Beach State shot 45% from the field (44% from 3-pt range) and 83% (5-6) from the charity line. SLU had 28 rebounds (9O, 19D), 14 assists, 3 steals, 4 blocked shots, and 8 turnovers as compared with 28 rebounds (3O, 25D), 10 assists, 1 steal, 4 blocked shots, and 18 turnovers by Long Beach State.

Billiken junior guard and East Saint Louis native Tommie Liddell, III (25) battles for a rebound against 49er junior center Brian Freeman (24). Liddell contributed 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Freeman scored 11 points and collected 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots. SLU senior forward Luke Meyer (32) drives against Long Beach State freshman guard Darnell Porter (14). Meyer finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots. Belleville native Kevin Lisch (21) scored 8 points in 27 minutes of action for SLU. LBSU junior guard Artis Gant (11) watches Lisch score a 3-pointer. Gant finished with 10 points and 6 turnovers before fouling out. Billiken senior guard Dwayne Polk (00) drives on 49er junior guard Donovan Morris (4). Polk scored 7 points and had 3 assists. Morris scored 14 points and collected 5 rebounds.
 

 
 
SLU junior forward Barry Eberhardt (15) battles under the boards. Eberhardt scored 9 points to go with 5 rebounds. Billiken freshman guard Paul Eckerle (10) drives for 2 of his 4 points. Eckerle also had 3 assists in 22 minutes of action. Senior center Bryce Husak (44) scored 6 points and collected 4 rebounds in only 18 minutes of action for SLU.
