Temple University at St. Louis University 18 February 2006
SLU Billikens (14-10, 8-4) in their first meeting against the Owls of Temple University (15-10, 7-6) came away with a 56-51 victory at the Savvis Center (reported attendance, 13,044). With outdoor temperatures hovering in the single to low-teen digits, the cold reception seemed to cool Temple's ability to shoot from the outside. And that fact alone negated the Owls' height advantages. To their credit, Temple was able to continue the opponents' ability to collapse around and shut down Billiken junior center Ian Vouyoukas, who finished with 4 pts but collected 10 rebounds. Last year's local recruit 5 ft-9 in sophomore guard Dwayne Polk has been seeing very little playing time this season (0 pts, 4 turnovers). The Billikens led by 5 points at the half (28-23) behind freshman guard Kevin Lisch (11 pts) and senior guard Anthony Drejaj (9 pts). For the game, SLU was led by Lisch (career-high 22 pts), Drejaj (15 pts, 8 turnovers), sophomore guard Luke Meyer (8 rebounds, 4 turnovers), and freshman guard Tommie Liddell (6 pts, 12 rebounds). The Billikens shot 46% from the field (48% from 3-pt range) and 60% from the charity line. The Owls were led by sophomore guard Mark Tyndale (23 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 steals) and senior guard Mardy Collins (14 pts, 6 rebounds, 5 steals). Temple shot 30% from the field (13% from 3-pt range) and 64% from the charity line. SLU had 41 rebounds (12O, 29D), 14 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocked shots, and 23 turnovers as compared with 29 rebounds (13O, 16D), 2 assists, 18 steals, 0 blocked shots, and 8 turnovers by Temple.

SLU freshman guard (and Belleville native) Kevin Lisch (21) drives the lane on his way to career-high 22 pts to go with 2 rebounds and 5 assists.

Billiken sophomore guard Danny Brown (1) scores 2 of his 9 points on this easy drive down the lane.
