SLU (0-1) dropped their season opener 63-58 to UT-Martin (1-0) at Savvis Center before 7,960 fans. The visiting Skyhawks were able to build an early 39-28 halftime lead with a run-and-gun offense as the Billikens turned over the basketball numerous times. Although the Billikens outscored the Skyhawks during the second half, SLU fell short in the final seconds as neither Marque Perry nor Drew Diener were able to hit on three-point attempts (0-13).


Billikens junior forward Chris Sloan (33) scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.


SLU senior guard Marque Perry (5) had 14 points and collected 2 rebounds and 5 assists but was ineffective from 3-point range in the second half.


SLU senior center Kenny Brown (41) scored 8 points in the first half but was held scoreless in the second half by Skyhawks senior forward Joey Walker (30) who scored 18 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and contributed 5 assists.
