University of Cincinnati at St. Louis University 15 January 2003

SLU (6-8, 0-3) lost their bout 66-56 with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (10-3, 3-0) at Savvis Center (reported attendance, 10,403). The Billikens were directed by Assistant Coach Anthony Beane while Coach Brad Soderberg fought off an early season stomach flu. SLU led 9-2 early in the game but trailed 33-30 at the half. Billikens senior guards Josh Fisher (4) and Marque Perry (5) had 10 and 6 points, respectively, at the half. The Bearcats were led by senior guards Leonard Stokes (13) and Taron Barker (20) with 11 and 8 points, respectively. The Billikens tried to weather the Bearcats but were unable to gain any consistent scoring advantage. At the final buzzer, Fisher and Perry contributed 18 and 20 points, respectively, while Barker, Field Williams (20) and Stokes scored 12, 15 and 25 points, respectively. SLU had a 33-32 rebound advantage. The most consistent observation at this point in the season appears to be the inconsistent presence of effective big men in the offense.
