SLU (14-7, 5-5) held on to defeat a deflated University of Houston (14-8, 7-3) team in the Bauman-Eberhardt Athletic Center (680 reported attendance). The Billikens took the lead 38-37 at halftime and never looked back. The Cougars played without their leading scorer freshman Chandi Jones (21.5 ppg). SLU was led by senior forward April McKinney and sophomore guards Christan Shelton, Harmonie King and Star Jackson. SLU shot 52% from the field but was 0 for 8 on 3-point baskets.


Houston senior guard Jessica Shanklin (5) scored 20 points and contributed 7 assists and 4 steals in 40 minutes of action.


SLU senior forward April McKinney (42) led the Billikens with 17 points to go with her 9 rebounds and 3 steals.

Sophomore guard Christan Shelton (14) contributed 12 points and collected 9 rebounds in the Billiken victory.

Billiken sophomore guard Star Jackson (25) scored 13 points, collected 3 rebounds and contributed 4 assists, while turning over the ball 7 times.

Cougar senior forward Monet Sykes (23) led all scorers with 25 points and 7 assists.

SLU sophomore guard Harmonie King (22) scored 16 points and collected 4 assists. King was 6 for 6 from the free-throw line.
